Conversation Starters for Preaching the Gospel: Part 1
Hi, how is your day going? I hope it's going well.
So today we're going to be talking about conversation starters for preaching the gospel.
People say they have boldness issues when it comes to preaching, but one reason is simply because,
they don't know how to start.
First off, make sure you start with a proper introduction.
You know, "Hi good afternoon, my name is _____, how is work going?", ask about the person's livelihood, ask how he/she's doing, just show interest in the person.
You may or may not ask for the person's name, but however way, build a sense of cordiality first.
So then:
1. "Do you know any good church around here?"
(the person begins to tell you which ones are available nearby),
Then you ask, "Now which one do you attend?", and from there, you proceed to preach.
>> This is very effective at getting the attention of people. And it obeys a very crucial tip for when it comes to preaching:
Being subtle.
I assure you, this is very important.
If you walk up to a Muslim for example and they already know you are coming to preach, most likely, you will be sent away packing.
So you must know how to be subtle. I repeat, this is very important. (Will be talked about more in another post).
2. (This is the one I use most times. Do not be afraid to use it. I repeat, do NOT be afraid). It goes thus:
After the proper introductions, you say,
"Sir/ma/bro, can I ask you a question?"
Person: "Okay"
"What do you think happens to us when we die? Do you know what's going to happen to you when you die?
Or God forbid, for instance, if someone shot you right now, do you know where you would go?"
(I repeat, DO NOT BE AFRAID TO USE THIS.
THERE IS NOTHING NOBLE ABOUT THINKING YOU HAVE AN OPTION BETTER THAN BOLDLY DECLARING THE TRUTH.)
Now, of course, you don't have to use the gun example, for example with market women they'll just say "God forbid" and tell you to go away 😂,
but with people around our age (I'm assuming you're between 13-28), this example doesn't put them off. In fact it causes them to think.
Make people ponder about death.
People like to escape that thought, so make sure you bring it back to their memory.
The only event in our lives, that no matter how much you try to run away from it, avoid the matter, avoid the subject,
It. Will. Surely. Come. For. You.
Let this truth dawn on them.
When you do this, you have gained access to their hearts, and from there, the preaching of the gospel can find meaning.
(Btw, as you can notice, conversation starters can be combined.)
The point is, get their attention, and make the preaching of the gospel have meaning to them.
This is actualised by taking these few steps.
More to come, but start with these first.
Bye
