Help! Evangelism is HARD. What should I do? - Part One

Hi there, evangelism is hard eh? I understand. Having to walk up to someone, summon the courage, and actually speak? Then about Jesus? Omor, yo!!

You might find it hard to talk to people, being an introvert, you may be shy, not know what to say, and all of that.

So then, this article will cover:

What to say when I actually evangelise - Part One.

I'm not going to waste your time here. Let's dive in.

The key essentials of every evangelism encounter are:

1. You must emphasize the need for salvation.

I mean, why accept Christ, when there's no need to? People don't get this. Most times, you don't just go and tell people "believe in Jesus, He died for you",

What does that mean? Of what use is that to them? People can only want a solution, if they know there is a problem, right?

The gospel is the cure to the Universal sickness called sin. Immorality. It is prevalent in EVERY single human. And unless that sin is purged, judgement will come. But yet, people don't see the need to get rid of that sin.

Why? Because they don't see it as serious. They don't see why they should be punished. They think they're good enough.

So this part has to do with, using the Law. The Law of Moses. The Ten Commandments.

A man known as Ray Comfort (Living Waters is his channel on YouTube), goes around talking to people, and this is how he starts when evangelises:

Ray: "Do you think you're a good person?"
Person: Yeah?

"Now let's test that out shall we?"
P: Sure 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♀️

- "How many lies have you told in your life?"
P: Uhh, can't count.

"What do you call someone who tells lies?"
P: A liar

- "Have you ever stolen something, even if it's small?"
P: Mm, yeah.

"And what do you call someone who steals?"
P: A thief

"So what are you?"
P: A thief

"No you're a lying thief".
(person laughs or shows shock)

- "Have you ever looked at a man/woman with lust?"
P: Yeah

"Jesus said whoever looks at a woman with lust has committed adultery in his heart".

- "Now then, have you ever used God's name in vain?"
P: Yeah

Ray: "Now I'm not judging you, but you've just told me you're a lying, thieving, blaspheming, adulterer at heart, and you have to face God on judgement day. If He judges you by the Ten Commandments, we've looked at four of them,

Will you be innocent or guilty?"

Person: Guilty.

"Heaven or Hell?"

Person: Hell.

"So what do you do then?", Ray Comfort asks.

Do you see what he just did there? He put the person in a very precarious position where he/she is forced to consider what will eventually happen to him. He exposes the person's moral state, and makes it clear to him/her, that you are in BIG. TROUBLE.

This is a necessary antecedent to preaching. It is highly important. Because people don't know how serious their sin actually is. We have a notorious inclination to compare ourselves with others and think, "Well, I'm not too bad", but God's Law says No.

"He who is guilty of one, is guilty of ALL" - James 2:10.

So we use the Law as a torchlight to point to people what is there. You know all those dust particles you see when you switch on a torchlight right? They were always there. You just never saw them.

The torchlight didn't put them there, it merely exposed them. That's what the Law does, it exposes the iniquity of man, and makes him realize, the need for a Saviour.

Humans are literally dying of something worse than a pandemic, (think of HIV for example, a person may have it and may not know, but the signs are there. He fails to treat it. What will happen?

Death. The same thing with the unbeliever.

The person is dying of a sickness called sin, and the only remedy to that, is Christ. And Christ can only be received when the gospel is received.

So we LEGIT carry humanity's ONLY HOPE. But yet people don't want to receive it, because they do not think they need to.

So what must we do? We must show that they need it, through God's Law, with all vehemence, and all fortitude.

As Psalms 19:7 says, "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;...",

It means it changes the mind, and brings the person to his knees, producing humility before God, who is the only One, that is able to save his soul.

Without this, the gospel will almost never be received, or at least, understood. I repeat, this is highly important.

To be continued in the next post.

Enjoy ✨
